Bristol Rovers Archive Volume 1: 1951-1991
By Keith Brookman
Bristol Rovers former programme editor Keith Brookman and former club photographer Alan Marshall have delved into the club’s photographic archive and unearthed a fabulous collection of images which will now appear in print as part of the Bristol Rovers Archive series of books produced in partnership with Bristol’s Tangent Books.
The first volume features pictures from 1951-1991, two significant dates for The Pirates. It was in the early 50s that manager Bert Tann began building the Eastville team that would take Rovers to their highest league position towards the end of the decade. And 1991 marks the end of the Gerry Francis era at Twerton Park. Despite being forced to move from their Eastville home in Bristol and share Twerton with Bath City, Francis created one of the finest teams in Rovers history.
The book is a collection of memorable images from the Eastville and Twerton days, that don’t just record the action on the pitch but go behind the scenes to give a rare glimpse of life at Rovers over four decades.
